The American Alliance of Paralegals Inc., was formed in January 2003 when a group of eleven paralegals met in Phoenix, Arizona to form a national organization that could meet the needs of paralegals who may or may not be affiliated with another paralegal organization. At that meeting the newly formed American Alliance hammered out its purpose and goals, and put together the mission statement and bylaws. It seemed that other paralegal associations were represented by delegates or groups, and the American Alliance wanted to focus on experienced paralegals, giving them a say and a direct input into the activities of the organization and how it would represent the legal profession.
Mission Statement: The purpose of the American Alliance of Paralegals, Inc. is to advance the paralegal profession by focusing on the individual paralegal.

Established in 1981, AAfPE’s roots go back to the mid 1970s when the American Bar Association sponsored the first conferences for paralegal educators. While much has been accomplished in the field of paralegal education from this beginning, there is still much more to be done to fully develop the potential for both the paralegal field and education for the profession.
Mission Statement: Recognizing the need to increase and improve access to the legal system, the American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE) promotes quality paralegal education, develops educational standards and encourages professional growth, in order to prepare graduates to perform a significant role in the delivery of legal services. - June 9, 2001

NALA's mission is to provide continuing education and professional development programs to all paralegals. NALA provides current information about the profession, continuing education programs (publications, courses and webinars), networking opportunities, professional certification programs, occupational survey reports, and publications to help paralegals excel in the workplace. NALA is a non-profit organization, 501(c)(6), representing more than 18,000 paralegals, who are individual members or members of NALA affiliated associations.

Founded in 1974, NFPA was the first national paralegal association. Created as a non-profit federation, NFPA is an issues-driven, policy-oriented professional association directed by its membership. It is comprised of more than 50 member associations and represents over 9,000 individual members reflecting a broad range of experience, education and diversity. NFPA prides itself on the professionalism of its members and routinely monitors legislation, case law, proposed changes to the rules of responsibility and ethics opinions that affect the paralegal profession. Mission Statement: The National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc., promotes a global presence for the paralegal profession and leadership in the legal community.

The NPA is an international organization offering benefits and services to individuals, law firms, corporate legal departments, independent paralegals, paralegal training schools and colleges as well as those offering services or products to those involved in the paralegal profession.

ParalegalEDU.org was designed to be the first free, full-access, and fully unbiased resource for paralegals and aspiring legal paraprofessionals in the United States and Canada. The team at ParalegalEDU.org set out to create this resource with one primary objective in mind: To anticipate the questions aspiring paralegals are likely to have and to provide them with clear and complete answers. And there’s really only one way to accomplish a mission like this – by building a community.
