When writing an APA-style paper, there are some essential items to remember. 

  • Write the paper using an objective, 3rd person voice. Use the 1st person voice when describing the author's research.
    • 1st Person: I, me, my, mine, we, us, our, ours,
    • 2nd Person: You, your, yours, you are,
    • 3rd Person: It, one, its, he, his, him, she, her, hers, they, them, their, they are.
  • Referenced material used in the paper should be either paraphrased or summarized.
  • Refrain from using contractions and slang or colloquial terms.
